WE ARE ADOPTING !! Many of you have heard us say these words but i have to tell you putting it in writing makes it much more real. We have been dealing with unexplained infertility for the last several years and after the last round of treatments ended in failure AGAIN, Chris & I decided to take a step back and reevaluate and came to the conclusion that adoption is the right choice for us to start a family.
Up to this point it has just been doing the research, meeting with a lawyer and filling out piles of paperwork to get ready for our homestudy. We will not be using an agency but will be doing more of an independent adoption ( I will blog about the differences in a later post). By choosing an independent adoption we will call upon our friends and family to help spread the word and share our profile with everyone you know once it is complete and we are home study approved. Below are some of the four questions we have been asked most frequently. If you have others feel free to send them my way.
1. Are you adopting domestically or internationally ?
We are doing a domestic adoption and are open to traveling to any state for our child.
2. What age, gender & race are you hoping to adopt ?
This is a tough question to answer especially when it comes to race because so many people have varying opinions on the matter but we have to make a choice that we feel is best for our family. So with that being said, we are hoping to adopt a Caucasian boy or girl preferably a newborn but may be willing to consider an older infant.
3. How long do you think it will take ?
We know once we turn our homestudy paperwork in it will take 6-8 weeks to be approved but after that we really don't know. It could be weeks, months or a year. The waiting will be the hardest but we are in it for the long haul and know the moment our child is placed in our arms it will be so worth the wait.
4. What can we do to help ?
PRAY !! Pray for all who will be involved in this journey , Chris & I and our families, our future child and his or her first family and all the others along the way.
Share our information with everyone you know, most placements are made because someone knows someone who knows someone who is looking to adopt or that is placing a child for adoption. You never know you may end up being the link to us finding our child :)
At some point we may be having a fundraiser ( adoption is expensive) so if and when that times comes i will be sure to let you know.
We are so excited to be on this journey and having all of you to support us along the way means so much to us. We can't wait for the day that we can share our little one with all of you.
